"I spent most of my life on the banks of the Hudson River. I wrote this song one morning while sitting on the shore in Dobbs Ferry, a village I lived in for twenty years.

Whenever I get lost I go down to the Hudson and feel the river's soul. It anchors me again.

Part of the resonance of these waters is the ancient rock on the west bank they call the Pallisades. I've been told it's some of the most ancient rock on the surface of the Earth." CM

Along the shore two lovers stand
walk along the river strand
lover’s lost in memory
as river runs out to the sea.

By the river stands a tree
leaves caught in a dying light
setting sun slips away
sets fire to another day.

Taste no more from the bitter glass
as day ends all things must pass
a thousand pieces make a whole
find you peace in the river’s soul.

In a night of moons, spirits dance
nothing’s lost if nothing’s chanced
the simplest thing is to let go
listen to the river’s flow.

Shadows catch a river song
eternity’s one heart beat long
wait upon the river dawn

Winter comes, the tree stands bare
naked hang the branches there
cold wind howls from the north
darkness brings a new prayer forth.

Remember love comes with the spring
remember joy love can bring

Sit upon the rocky shore
waters lapping evermore
listen to nightbird calls
as passion soars so passion falls.

From the wood church bell tolls
a hymn is raised to forgotten souls
love is here, love is gone
caught within the river song.

as heart and soul now take wing.
